Beautiful Places in Sri Lanka 2011

Sri Lanka's hill capital, stronghold of the Sinhala Kings, is our most beautiful town. It is 488 metres above sea level and next to Colombo is Sri Lanka's most visited place. The focal point of the town is, without doubt, the golden roofed Dalada Maligawa where the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is enshrined. Major restoration work is in progress here by the UNESCO - aided Central Cultural Fund. The highlight of the year is the Esala Perahera, when a replica of the relic casket is taken in procession accompanied by exotically costumed dancers, drummers and about 80 to 100 elephants during ten glittering nights in July/August. Visit Kalapuraya in the beautiful Dumbara valley 8 km. from Kandy, where descendants of the ancient craftsmen still create items of rare elegance in metal and wood. There are many shrines and temples in and around Kandy, where you will see rare paintings, frescoes, wood and stone carvings. Don't miss the Peradeniya Gardens begun as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala King, with its amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers.

London: London is a really beautiful place to visit. There are many places in London that are worth a visit. The most famous among them is the famous Buckingham palace. Tower of London is also worth a visit. There are many historical buildings in London and you can view most of them walking in the streets of this city. This city is amazingly beautiful.

England is a country with so many beautiful places, and one of the loveliest is the area around Malvern, Worcestershire. The three counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, and extending across to the Welsh border and Powys, are, for me, just a wonderfully scenic and delightful part of Britain to visit and explore, with many lovely little villages of the kind that can only be found in rural England.
One of the loveliest is Hanley Swan, a village that you can drive through without really noticing, but a place that will reward you if you just stop for a while, walk around, have a meal or a drink in the Swan, and relax beside the Swan Pond at the village’s crossroads. Or, you can walk along to the Catholic Church to see a building designed by a Mr Hansom, the brother of the man who designed the original Hansom Cab!

With geographic boundaries and public Transit becoming a theme on this list, it’s probably shocking to no one that New York City is the star of this list– bounded by multiple bodies of water (and New Jersey) and featuring the most extensive mass transit system of any American city, New York has long fostered the sort of environment where citizens don’t even own cars. Of course, most still do, but it’s possible not to, and a glimpse into our more easily sustainable future.
Next on our hit parade is San Fransisco– much like Honolulu, the SF-Oakland area has its hand forced by geography, and it also has an excellent rapid transit system– the BART– that enables a tightly-packed populous to move around as they would with automobiles in suburban areas.
The third-densest city in America bucks its reputation. Long the poster child for urban sprawl, the reality of L.A. is simply that it’s that big– density EVERYWHERE doesn’t make a city any less (or more) sustainably developed. The difference between Los Angelenos and the rest of the citizenry on this list is that L.A. has far more commuters on the road and not using mass transit.
